Photography Workflow Software & Tools

Adobe: Be sure to calculate software expenses into your start-up costs. Semi-pro/pro-grade photo-video software are tools you will definitely need to streamline your imagery workflow from day one through day infinity.
Strongly consider Lightroom, Photoshop/Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Premier (video)/Photoshop Premier Elements (video) as additions to your photo-video software suite.
ACDSee: I’ve used both Adobe & ACDSee software. ACDSee is great, although past versions weren’t nearly as robust as Photoshop. This is an excellent option/alternative to Adobe at a relatively reasonable price compared to Photoshop. I might be inclined to say that ACDSee is more like Photoshop Elements on steroids as opposed to a direct competitor to Photoshop itself. None-the-less, excellent program and if you’re used to it, stick with it. Light room is more important these days unless your a graphic artist and ACDSee is perfectly compatible with Lightroom.

Photography Pricing Tools & Management Software

fotoQuote:  Helpful pricing and business management tool used since the late-1980s in the professional photography world by photographers, ad agencies and individual buyers helping to establish fair market pricing based on multiple variables.
Obviously, fotoQuote won’t make you a millionaire simply by downloading the software, but the easy-to-use interface and highly relevent ‘food for thought’ found throughout the descriptive & detailed program provides great insight as to how to begin approaching photography as a business from many angles.
Hindsight Ltd.
Photobyte
Blinkbid
NPPA Cost of Doing Business Calculator: An excellent resource to use when when preparing financial statements for your photo business plan or otherwise simply trying  to gain an understanding of the expenses involved in professional photography.
